Rational
I have included this curriculum analysis on hands-on science and its importance in increasing students' understanding in the sciences and the balanced literacy list because it aligns with NBPTS proposition 2. Both show my knowledge of the Georgia coast and issues arising from pollution. I know how to use diverse instructional strategies to teach the material so that it is understood. This curriculum analysis assignment allowed me to explain the challenges facing students in the sciences and how changing the way we teach the sciences can improve students' understanding. It gave me the opportunity to take my knowledge of the different components that make up the Georgia Coast and create an in-depth curriculum to allow other educators the opportunities to teach in a hands-on style even when they don't have access to the coast as easily as I do everyday. The balanced literacy list allowed me to research materials and resources that could assist in helping teach students about the types of marine debris and the effects of marine debris on the Georgia coast. It improved my own knowledge on the matter of marine debris so that I am up-to-date on the subject matter to answer students questions.
